Suzie's prompt today is to reveal what is in your handbag.  I've given you a quick peek inside.  Mainly the usual things, purse, cards, phone, pen tissues and not so usual, two boxes of contact lenses!  They are in there as I have to take them back and get them changed for something a little stronger and if I don't have them in my bag now, I'll forget them on Saturday!

Journalling on the 'mitten' reads: "Recycled Christmas Today I took down my Christmas decorations and Christmas cards. But some of them are so lovely I wanted to keep them. Here are some 'bits' from my favourite cares. Most of these are cards made by my crafting friends. Thanks to everyone for the beautiful cards."

I'm sure some of my blog readers will recognise little bits from cards that they made for me. I'm sorry if your card didn't make it, I did appreciate them all, but some didn't lend themselves to being deconstructed.

So this is the end of my record of Christmas 2009, I started out with the intention of using prompts but in the end I found that what worked for me was to pick out the events and aspects of the season that stood out for me this year. I hope you have enjoyed sharing my Christmas and will continue to visit my blog throughout 2010 to share my crafting projects and photographs.

Samhain

It's the start of the November Challenges at Digital Craft Cottage and for the 'Quote it' challenge we have a choice of seasons to scrap. Sassy Serenity who set the challenge asked us to go back to our ancient roots and scrap the ancient seasons of Samhain or Beltaine. I'm doing both, but will come back witht he Beltaine (Spring) one later. I just thought it was appropriate to get this one out today, as Samhain is the festival which turned into Halloween.

Samhain is one of the four Celtic fire festivals marking the quarter points in the year - feasts were held and bonfires were lit throughout the countryside.The bonfires were to warm friendly spirits and ward off evil spirits, and also represented the sun which they wished would return, bringing heat and growth.



Never sleep or rest on the ground beneath the boughs of a hawthorn tree on Halloween as it's believed that evil spirits and mischievous faeries who are roaming the earth that night hide within the branches of hawthorn trees and cast unpleasant spells on those who innocently stop to rest beneath them.

Color (Colour) It

I took my camera to work yesterday as it was a beautiful day and the campus I was working at has a fantastic parkland around it. This photo was just right for the 'Color It' (I find it really difficult to spell in American lol!) challenge at Digital Craft Cottage. This month's colour was pastel yellow, I have let a few other colours slip in there, but it is predominantly yellow.

I made the papers myself including the 'impressionist' leaves paper, the elements are from Scraporchard's September 2008 Mega kit. Font is 'Informal Roman'.

DCM - Sunflowers

This week at Daring Card Makers, Rein has dared us to use Sunflowers on our cards. I love sunflowers so it was a real pleasure to take part in this challenge.
The image is one supplied by Artarazzi (sadly not longer running), papers are K&Co Verbena and the 'Enjoy' label is from a digital freebie kit from Scraporchard, oh and that is a bit of garden twine! I used sketch 36 from PageMaps card maps.

This week I, (Lythan) want you to commiserate with me as I miss my daughter, off all weekend on a school trip. So the theme is

Make a card that shares your love with someone - it could be missing you, thinking of you, across the miles - just let you imagination take flight, as the wonderful design team have! I look forward to whiling away my lonely hours by visiting your blogs!


I knew I wouldn't use a card that said 'Miss You', so decided to go for 'Thinking of you'. I felt like making a digi-hybrid card, although I think it probably took me longer than if I'd just hit my stash pile!

Digi Kit is the 'For Melissa' collaboration by the Scrapbookgraphics DT and the stitching came from the Kit TGIF (Thank Gosh I'm Female) by Pixelgeek Designs for Scraporchard. The ribbon is real all the rest are digi elements printed and cut out, font is CK Ali's handwriting.

I think I must have 'fish brains' today, I also want to acknowledge the sketch I used for the card, it is sketch 11 from Kathy's Waffle Sketch File.

Artarazzi Challenge 18

This is the modern art image by Boris Vallejo that we are altering this week in the Artarazzi Challenge.
The long tendrils of her hair reminded me of Aubrey Beardsley prints, I love the flowing lines of Beardsley's art, this one is The Peacock Skirt. Other digital elements came from Flergs and the background paper from PolkaDotPlum both designers at Scraporchard.

Cats Birthday

My cats, James and Jenny were 16 on the 5th of November. An easy birthday to remember, I'm not sure if the fireworks set off their mother cat's labour, mind you I still managed to forget that it was their birthday until the 6th! However, as they live a fabulous life with a farm to play in, and all the best seats in the house, so don't feel sorry for them.

Anyway, I thought I would celebrate their Sweet Sixteenth with a couple of LOs using pictures I took at in the sunshine of last weekend.

Scraporchard Template Challenge

We went for a walk on Sunday and, of course, the camera came too! The leaves are only just beginning to turn colour so a lot of gold and still some green. This LO is uses the template for the Scraporchard template challenge, papers/elements are either my own (the impressionist leaf background) or from the SO September Mega by the SO Designers, the Word Art is 'Elegant Word Art by Bethany Harty - The Simple Life'.

I thought I'd scrap a flood photo, I chose this one because I wanted to use the Scrap Orchard September Mega Kit and this picture has the most autumnal feel to it.

Green Tomato Chutney

I made the chutney a couple of weeks ago, but came across this lovely Quick Page by LLIELLA,

the little recipe card is from Digitreats, the decorations on the card are from the Scraporchard, September Mega Kit.

Two versions of the same thing!

Yesterday morning the sun was out and it was really warm. So we took our cooked breakfast outside and sat on the patio. The cows were grazing in the field making an idyllic pastoral scene behind us and Jenny the Cat decided to join us on the table. She was ejected as soon as the photo was taken!

The top LO is for Digital Craft Cottage, you can only post digi LOs using their kits or your own designs. The kit is Bugs and Butterflies by Muriel.

This LO is for Scrap Orchard - Apple Cart Challenge. The kit is provided free and you post it in their gallery. It was quite challenging to use only the pieces in the kit as there were not all that many. All the other LOs seem to have A's on their report cards, so I wanted to do something different, the report card is for Jenny and she 'could do better' in many areas hee hee! I did this LO first, then recreated it using the DCC pieces so I could post there too.
