Show and Tell - Children Crossing

Hello, I haven't done a Show and Tell for a while, but I thought I'd show you this sign that I saw when I was on holiday (vacation) in Italy. It amused me to see that the sign which I assume is telling us to take care because there might be children around shows a man in a trilby hat holding the hand of a little girl, wouldn't happen here would it?

Show and Tell Friday - Moss

Not much time to prepare for this tonight, so I am showing you the moss growing in our yard. I love the patterns that the moss makes, but it is getting to the point that it is encroaching into areas where it shouldn't be and will have to be removed.

Show and Tell - Clock

I nearly forgot about Show and Tell Friday, so here is a quick post showing the clock in my dining room. This clock was the inspiration for the colour scheme for the dining room and kitchen, so although it is not a great timekeeper, I love the way it looks.

Show and Tell Friday - Through the Hedge

I was out last evening taking photographs and caught this blue sky through the hedgerow. I love our hedgerow, it is full of ferns, nettles, brambles and honeysuckle, a real old fashioned hawthorn hedge, only slightly tamed, always trying to 'go wild'.

We are getting some work done on our field drains, and this enormous digger arrived this afternoon :o It is huge! I just had to take a pic and share it with you.

Happy Easter

No, this is not a freak of nature! This photograph comes from last summer, but I thought that everyone would enjoy seeing this cheerful flower, with it's little accessories, a bee and a fly!

Show and Tell Friday

After I showed the Victorian card a couple of weeks ago, there were some requests to see more of my hall and stair with it's Victorian/Edwardian features. Our house dates back to the late 18thC, however it was remodelled in 1900, we know because there has been continuous family in the house since then, and we still have the plans. The bottom of the house was extended and a top storey added with tiled fireplaces in the bedrooms and this stair case. There used to be coloured glass in the window at the top of the stairs but we had to replace it and decided to go for clear glass so we could get more light and see the view.
I hand stencilled all the red roses and gold leaves at time when my crafting was directed towards decorating! Last year my DH & I stripped all the paint off the bannister and repainted the posts.

We have these two ladies looking across at each other, they are probably my favourite feature in the hall.
I hope you enjoyed seeing my hallway, please visit Kelli's Show and Tell and share a little bit of your life.

Friday, 27 March 2009

Here is my Show and Tell for Friday 27th March. I can remember this chest from when I was a little girl. It belonged to my Grandpa and he kept his collection of silver spoons in it. I used to love taking them out and looking at them. I remember one of them had a handle in the shape of a rifle.
When my Gran died I asked to have this chest and I keep my jewellry in it. My dad inherited the spoons and many of them are solid silver and now they are kept in a safe not to be played with by anyone, seems a shame really. I'm sure this chest is not worth very much but it means a lot to me.

Show and Tell Friday

It's Show and Tell Friday again! This week I'd like to tell you about my DH's grandmother, who kept scrapbooks and in those scrapbooks were some real gems of Victorian/Edwardian cards. This was the most intricate and exquisite card of all, so I rescued it and framed. It hangs in the hall way in our house which is true to the period of the card.

Show and Tell Friday

This is my favourite mug, I think of it as my 'secret garden' mug. My SIL bought it for me when we went to visit a pottery festival last summer. I'm very much a follower of the 'Arts & Crafts Movement' way of thinking i.e. beautiful and useful!

Show and Tell Friday

It's Show and Tell Friday over on Kellis's Blog, click on the picture to see what everyone is showing today.
This is a picture of one of the old pieces of farm machinery which we have around the farm. It's a grinding stone, hand turned to sharpen scythes and hedging bills.
