Sew Cute - Sugarplumpaperie

I have decided that layouts are just TOO dull in black and white, so I'm keeping the actual photograph in b and w, as per the prompt, but adding some colour in the layout page.

The dress that features, with it's 'repeating pattern,' comes from an exhibition I visited at the weekend.  I went to Shambellie House, the National Museum of Costume for Scotland.  There is a permanent exhibition and with rooms set up to show different periods and then there are special exhibitions which change.  I have been to Shambellie House many times as it is a good place to take visitors. 

The current exhibition is of Horrockses Fashion dresses.  These cotton summer dresses with their bold patterns brought back memories of my Mum and her friends, although they probably made theirs rather than buy them ready made.

I've had a day off work and enjoyed being at home, but it's back to work tomorrow, so we will probably be back to catch up mode again!

Today the prompt is 'Random'.  I was passing the spare room or 'music room' where my husband practices his saxophone and also sometimes plays his guitar.  The second guitar belonged to my great-uncle and is a steel strung jazz guitar.

Okay, so it's not obviously unfinished.  However, breakfast on the patio (my favourite summer thing) has not yet begun, the orange juice is poured, the bacon rolls are on the plate, they are not finished so they are unfinished!  What a fabulous weekend of sunny summer days - more please.

My husband plays saxophone and his teacher, Marcus Blunt,  is a composer for clarinet as well as a teacher.  This is his latest Sonata.  This one isn't available on Youtube but there are a couple of pieces, played at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival by the London Schubert Players, that you can listen to HERE and HERE

I found this prompt really easy as I have lots of signs, mainly in my kitchen, the COOK letters are my favourite because I love the pastel colours, spots and floral patterns.

Keep Calm and Sew On!

I'm not really a 'cutesy' kind of girl so the challenge at Daring Card Makers this week really made me think.  

so kawaii!

Kawaii means anything that is lovable, hug-able and basically cute! Think Hello Kitty and food with smiley faces. Most of the colours in kawaii are sugary, fun and bright so I want to see a little fun bright pop colour too.If you're totally stumped this week check out my favourite kawaii blog for some super cute inspiration, http://www.supercutekawaii.com/

I decided that the way to go was with the sugary colours rather than the japanese theme.

I was lucky enough to win this digital kit called 'Sew Cute' (see there is a cutesy element in there!) designed by  Sugarplum Paperie, Danielle Engebretson Designs and Mari Koegelenberg Creation,  from the Sugarplum Paperie blog recently and I just love the sewing themed elements and the fun sewing sentiments.  The whole of the card design is digital, printed out and stuck onto a card blank, the edges of which have been coloured with matching ink.

Best Friends and a Lovely Lady

I missed out on doing the Soartful Challenge last week what with being away in Newcastle and then away to London during the week. So I'm playing catch up!

Playing with Masks

No, not for Halloween! I have had some digital masks for some time, but never really knew what to do with them, however last night I came on a great tutorial on Shimelle's blog. It was a glorious day yesterday and I took a few photos at Castle Loch on our way back from hospital visiting. I am really pleased with the result and think that mask may be my 'next favourite thing' lol!

Artarazzi Challenge 20

Our guest designer this week is Femmy. She has chosen a wonderful image for you all, and provided a wonderful piece of work. The beautiful image is by Charles Joshua Chaplin and is called "Girl with a Nest" When I looked at this painting, my first thought was that it was so realistic it was like a photograph, then I wondered what else she could have in her hand...and what would she be doing if she was alive today?

So I took her clubbing!!!!

Another Saturday another challenge – well 2 to be exact……
Use any vintage adverts to create 1 art card – 6” x 4” – and one any size you like.
One must be retro style and the other must be vintage style.

Okay, so the retro one is not an advert, but I loved The Champions, Alexandra Bastedo was so chic, and to me the whole look of this picture sums up the 1960s.

Art Creations Friday

No need to say that this is probably my favourite photograph of me and DH ever. When I saw the background provided for the Art Creations Friday Challenge, I thought immediately of this photo as the colours blend perfectly. I've altered it with the Scrapbookgraphics collaboration kit 'For Melissa' including elements from Flergs, Ellie Lash and Nicole Seitler of Sugarplum Paperie.

Fiskarettes Competition

Over on the Fiskarettes site there is a monthly competition. The October comp is to use the quote "A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song (Chinese Proverb)" .

These beautiful papers are digital downloads from Sugarplum Paperie, a kit called 'Little Birdie' . The tag is from Little Birdie too, I printed it out 4 times and did a bit of 3D decoupage to give it a bit of texture. The music element is from another Sugarplum Paperie kit called 'Classical Melody'

Sugarplum Paperie - Ad inspiration challenge

The Sugarplum Paperie Friday Challenge is to use an advertisement to inspire a layout or project. We are surrounded by inspiration everyday as we drive down the road, watch television or read a magazine. Use an ad to inspire your color choice, positioning of the photos/elements or even just to springboard your layout.
I liked the way this ad uses different sized text and I don't think I make enough of text and word art in my LOs, so I thought I would try this out. The kit used is Sugarplum Paperie 'Little Birdie', font is BN Machine and I used a CU overlay by Pineapple Plantation to fuzz it up a little.

Digital Scrap Girls Challenge

Over on the Digital Scrap Girls Forum (see blinkie at left of posts for link), there are a number of challenges. 'I am the Lucky one' was the title challenge and I decided to use the photos from my Mum's birthday. All the papers and elements are by Digital Scrap Girls

This LO is from the 'You can never have too many' challenge and this month it is Flowers. I combined this challenge with the March Sketch (by Caroline Scattergood) challenge on Bubbly Funk Forum. Papers are from the Sunshine Girls Easter Egg hunt (free and still available) which I started via the Sugarplum Paperie site, but these were mostly by AKay (links to all the Sunshine girls blogs are on the Sugarplum Paperie. Some of the elements are from Signs of Spring by Mistca (Digital Scrap Girls). I still have two of the challenges to do before the end of the month, so you will be seeing some more LOs very soon.

Love Actually

These are some of the fabulous freebies being given away by the Collaboration Girls. Nicole Seitler at Sugarplum Paperie has links to all the Girls who are part of the collaboration to give away love-related digi-papers and elements. I don't have a lot of 'lovey' pictures so I thought that my pink hat might be the link for this picture, taken on the River Tule in a part of California that is not often seen. It was a very hot day and we had been walking for about 2 hours before we reached this shady spot by the waterfall.
