Blue and White...Green and Yellow!

Moving away from the holiday photos again for a moment, here are some bits of crafting I've been doing since I came home. 

The theme for Something Completely Different this week is 'Blue & White' and we are still on Skinnis (3" x 5") cards.

 I used the stamp that came with Craft Stamper, stamped with Brilliance Mediterranean Blue on white card on the left and embossed with holographic powder on the right, I  then stamped and cut out the shell, the embossing wasn't showing up terribly well so I highlighted the 'sea shells' text with white gel pen and then did a bit of doodling, finished off with three buttons from my stash.

Now for the 'Green and Yellow'.  One of the nice things about being on holiday is that we have been able to take our son & DIL's dog out for walks.  I took some photographs of Muffin when we took her through our hay fields on Tuesday.  

All the papers and elements are digital and by Studio Tangie@Scrapbookgraphics.com. The kit is a bargain buy August 2009 grab bag which I got for $1.00!

Here is my entry for Something Completely Different, here are the details of the new challenge:

 

With a new month comes a new challenge. This month we will be playing with Skinnis. Yes I had to ask what Skinnis were too! Well they are 3 x 5 inches. New one on me.

This week the theme is House or Houses.

 

 

The stamp is a freebie from Craft Stamper and I went with a sort of Clarice Cliff colouring theme.

A cat may look at a King

Crowns are everywhere in crafting right now and they are the theme for this week's Something Completely Different Challenge.  As well as the usual Ranger Distress inks, I used some Viva Decor Croco Transparent Crackling that I got from Caroline at BubblyFunk Shoppie Shop.  When it was dry I cracked the card and then rubbed over more ink.  The 'king' is a Stampotique stamp by Daniel Torrente, the crown and cat are both Craft Stamper Magazine Freebies.

We'll always have Paris...

A little Twinchie from me for the Something Completely Different Challenge 'Paris'.  The usual stuff, Distress Inks, assorted stamps, a bit of stickles glittery stuff and a heart shaped brad for lurrrrve ;)

W is for Westie

The Something Completely Different Team have chosen 'Letters of the Alphabet' for April's theme, no size restrictions or other criteria.  Gez chose the letter "W" for the first week, so my card features a West Highland Terrier or Westie, a stamp by Little Claire.  I've left it greeting free because I'm not yet sure what I want to use it for.

The SCD (Something Completely Different) challenge this week was to create a Thrinchie (3 x 3 inch square) featuring a crown.  I got my subscription copy of Craft Stamper yesterday and really like the tutorial they had by Liesbeth Fidder called 'Layer upon Layer', so I used this technique to create my background.  The fairy stamp came from Sue in a stamped image swap.  The quote is, of course, from Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare: "You spotted snakes with double tongue; Thorny hedgehogs be not seen; Newts and blind worms do no wrong. Come not near our fairy queen".

Friends are like fiddle strings...

So, after last week with the 'Men' Thrinchie I thought I would try another piece in 3" x 3".   The theme for this week on 'Something Completely Different' is Musical Instruments. I was tempted to use the saxophone stamp that you may have seen before, but decided that the Maya Road rub-ons with the violin, bow and music notes would fit the 3" better!  The quote reads:

"Friends are like fiddle strings; they must not be screwed too tight"  

note the screw-type brad, as soon as I found that quote I knew I had to use one of the screw brads I've been hoarding for about 3 years.

Distress Inks in Rusty Nail, Peeled Paint and Adirondack Pebble.  A bit of Gesso dry brushing and a Dimension Fourth stamp of sheet music.  Then a wee bit of scribbling round the edges and it was done.

Men!

The Something Completely Different challenge this month is to make 'thrinchies' (three inch squares) and the theme this week is Men. I rummaged around in my stamps to see what kind of 'men' I had in there and came across this one which I got in a charity stamp mixed bag. My brain worked something like this: Men...bicycle = that old 70s women's lib adage "A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle"

I did go through a bit of a women's lib phase e.g. reading Spare Rib and wearing dungarees (only because they were fashionable) but I never was able to give up men!

It's been a while since I took part in the Something Completely Different challenges, but I couldn't resist this one. I've never really got into ATCs but as that is the format for this challenge that's what I have created. I particularly like the original Tenniel drawings for Alice in Wonderland, so it had to feature one of those.

Yes it's catch up time for me on the Something Completely Different Challenge Blog! It's been a busy old time what with trips to Newcastle then London then flooding and finally going down with a cold, so I got a bit behind with my cards and my challenges.

The Snowmen image came in an image swap, the Joy sentiment is a Studio G stamp which I use a lot. Paper is from Colorful Christmas (My Mind's Eye).

The Snowflake stamp came from a magazine I used to buy in the 90's called 'Insirations' and Joanne will be pleased to know that I managed to use my cuttlebug to cut and emboss the circles - hurrah! Sentiment is a Personal Impression stamp.

The Pink Christmas Tree looks better than that, it is embossed with holographic embossing powder and the stamp is from the same Personal impressions set as the sentiment. Paper is Colorful Christmas again.

HOLLY AND THE IVY - USING THE COLOURS, GREEN, RED AND GOLD

This was a simple card to make, I won the Holly stamp from Gez in a charity auction so it was an obvious choice for this challenge, I stamped the image with Dazzle Versamark in Champagne and embossed with Chinese Red embossing powder (it's sort of red and gold), then I used Ranger 'Worn Lipstick' Distress ink blended with a bit of sponge round the edge, a blast of Irridescent Gold Glimmer Mist, mount the image on gold card add a green ribbon and a pin featuring red, green and gold beads.

Pumpkinhead

It's the last inchy challenge on the Something Completely Different Blog. In keeping with the time of year, it's a halloween theme. This is a very simple inchy, a piece of black card, a big orange brad which I drew on with Sharpies and some silver glitter pen round the edge of the card.

So here is 'Wee Angus' from Sugar Nellie as my 'Face' for the Something Completely Different Inchies this week. I swiped the stamped card with Versamark Dazzle (first time I've used it) and embossed with clear embossing powder. It certainly sparkles!

It don't matter if you're black or white....

BLACK AND WHITE

So it does matter, it has to be black AND white! I stamped with white onto a piece of black card, the stamp is from Crafty Individuals, and then highlighted with my white gel pen. A little teeny tiny piece of lace and a stick on pearl and it was done!

I thought this was a rather apt quote to go along with my two inchies for Something Competely Different. I was too busy last week to take part, so I am playing catch up. Last week's prompt was 'Oriental' and this week it was 'Birds'

I went a bit more arty-farty for the bird stamp and 'swiped' the card with Ranger Distress Inks in Peeled Paint, Milled Lavender and Worn Lipstick before stamping the birdie (Crafty Secrets - thanks Joanne!) with Peeled Paint and then once dry overstamping in Sepia Versafine. I'm quite pleased with that, given that it took me all of about 5 minutes lol!

ABC - Easy as 1-2-3

Over on Something Completely Different this is the last week of Moos and the theme is A B C. I made this one from a lot of little bits and pieces so can't tell you what they are I'm afraid.

Something Completely Different - Metal Moo!

We are still making Moos for Something completely different, the theme for this week is to put something metal on your Moo. I wasn't sure what I was going to use, but started looking through the DH's nuts & bolts and screws. The ones at the back door were too new looking, so I went out to the garage where the accumulated junk of about 100 years (I joke not!) are piled up on the work bench, I found this metal button and the little nut in one of the old drawers which were made by DH's grandfather who was a master joiner. I'd been reading the Claudine Helmuth tutorial in Craft Stamper, so the background has acrylics and masking, I also stamped onto tissue paper (another tutorial in CS!) but it is difficult to see that. There seemed to be something missing - Words! I turned to my 'cheap as chips' dictionary, I was going to use 'Metal' but I liked the sound of metallurgy better.



I went back out the the garage (or cart shed, as was it's original purpose) to take the photograph.

MOO CARDS

My Moo uses some black paper from the Papermania Touch of Teal kit (Blog Candy from Sue H), I painted it with a bit of gesso and some ochre acrylic paint, then stamped with Versamark and gold embossing powder. The stamp is Tim Holtz 'Fairy Garden'. Finished with a bit of black ribbon and a beaded hat pin.

Something Completely Different - Houses 2 & 3

Here are my two houses for the last two weeks challenges on Something Completely Different The first theme was 'Words' and when I looked up 'house/home' on an online quote site, this one caught my eye and immediately reminded me of a stamp I got in a swap some time ago. I know it is not strictly a house, but it is a house roof!
When I saw the title Birdhouse for the second house, my mind went to Charlie Parker, known as 'Bird' which gave me a chance to use my saxophone stamp (Dimension Fourth) again lol! So here is 'Bird' in da house.
